The Premier International Club in Asia

May, 2008

Renowned architect Cesar Pelli of Pelli Clarke Pelli, the firm behind the design of the new Azabudai Club, presented the design to the Membership on April 15. The new renderings of the Club can be viewed here or in the Family and Adult lobbies of the Club. We hope to receive the building permit for the new Club by the end of July to allow for construction to start at the beginning of August.

Meanwhile, demolition of the old Azabudai buildings continues. During the stripping out of the interior and furnishings, some of the original finishes from the 1970s were revealed, including the fleur-de-lys-patterned wallpaper in the banquet rooms on the third floor and the green- and orange-colored ceramic floor tiles in Garden Café. Demolition of the exterior structure starts soon.

Following February’s town hall meeting, another Redevelopment Project update will be held on Thursday, May 22. This town hall meeting will include news on the progress of the Azabudai Club and ongoing upgrades of the Takanawa facility.
