The Premier International Club in Asia

Takenaka Corporation

Centuries of Experience

It would be hard for another company to have more business experience in Japan than the Takenaka Corporation, a member of the TMT consortium working on the Club project. The architectural, engineering and construction company has origins stretching back to 1610, when carpenter Tobei Masataka Takenaka started a business in Nagoya.

The outfit went on to build some of the first Western-style buildings in Japan in the late 19th century, before establishing itself as the Takenaka Contractors joint partnership in 1909. It built Tokyo Tower—the tallest steel tower in the world—in 1958. Today, Takenaka has offices around the world.

Takenaka will be the main contractor building the new Club at Azabudai. It has experience working with world-renowned architects and on scores of buildings throughout Japan. A couple of projects Club Members might recognize include the Prada Boutique Aoyama (designed by the Swiss architectural firm Herzog & de Meuron) and the Tod’s Omotesando building (designed by Toyo Ito & Associates). Both feature extensive use of exterior glass, as will the new Club building.

The company was the lead contractor on the recently completed Tokyo Midtown project in Roppongi and has worked on sports landmarks like Tokyo Dome, Fukuoka Dome (which boasts a retractable roof) and Sapporo Dome.
