A Retreat in the Heart of Town

Opening Notes

As the Club continues to settle into its new home, Members can expect to receive the occasional e-mail detailing changes in operations or other Club-related information.

May 9

Getting to the Club

Some taxis’ car navigation systems do not show the Club’s location in Takanawa since these systems are only updated periodically. If your taxi driver cannot locate the Club, please ask him/her to call the Member Services Desk at 03-4588-0670 for directions. The UNICEF Building and the Icelandic Embassy, both located on the same road as the Club, can be used as reference points.

Children in Vineyards

Children aged 8 and above are allowed in Vineyards before 5 p.m., daily. All children, though, must be accompanied by an adult.

April 4

Improving the Club

The Club is set to start fixing some of the problems that were found soon after the opening of the facility in January. For example, the play structure from Azabudai will be installed behind the Baby Pool. Some work has already been done, including adjusting traffic patterns in the Parking Lot and adding extra lighting. Other work will be done this month and during the first half of May. As much as possible, the work will be done at night.

Settling In: An Update on the Building Design

Why two lobbies?
A major feature wanted for the new Club, based on multiple Member surveys over the years, was a separation of adult and family activities. With separate adult and family entryways, elevators and stairwells, the lobbies at Takanawa are a partial implementation of that. During our opening period, implementing this was not reasonable since Members, understandably, wanted to see the new Club and were unfamiliar with the layout. But in coming months we ask for your cooperation in recognizing that children are not permitted in the Adult Lobby. As most realize now, all Club facilities on the second and third floors are accessible from either lobby.

Outdoor Playground

The Club is currently working on an appropriate design and setting for the popular outdoor playground that used to be on the roof of the Recreation Building at the old Azabudai Club. While the plan was to put the playground behind the Wading Pool in Takanawa, municipal and environmental restrictions meant that some large trees had to be placed there instead. However, the Club is aware of the importance of this service and will continue to keep Members informed on developments.

North Gate

The shortest route on foot to Shinagawa Station from the Club is via the north gate at the back of the Parking Lot. This gate also allows access to the playground near the back of the Club. Much like the system with the old Azabu Towers entrance to the Azabudai Club, Members can pick up a key for the north gate in return for a deposit at the Member Services Desk.

Driving to the Club

When driving from the direction of Shinagawa Station to Takanawa, take the center lane for Gotanda, which takes you through an underpass. Turn right at the first traffic signal after the footbridge over the road. The next right turn will take you directly to the Club entrance.

January 18

Strollers in the Club

Strollers can be used on the first floor of the Family Area of the Club when taking children to and from the Childcare Center. In addition, the stroller parking area is right next to the Family Area entrance and is in full view of the Member Services Desk staff. Regrettably, strollers can no longer be checked at the Member Services Desk due to limited storage.

Teen and Kids’ Zones’ Opening Hours

The Teen and Kids’ zones close at the same time of Garden Café: 7:30 p.m. Those using these rooms can stay until the last customers leave Garden Café. On those occasions when the Childcare Center is open later than Garden Café, the Member Services Desk staff will assist parents in going to pick up their children.

Getting to the Club by Car

Due to the continued demolition of the Sony buildings, Members occasionally may not be able to access the Club from the small road opposite the entrance to the Club. They can easily make the next right turn up instead. Click here to see the updated access map.
